 Tissue Paper

Tissue paper is generally a thin and highly absorbant paper which is crepped during manufacture to make it soft. This paper is normally used in contact with human skin and is catogarised as:

Toilet tissue paper in 16 to 21 GSM, 1 & 2 ply.

Napkin or Serviette tissue paper in 15 to 21 GSM in 1, 2 and 3 ply.

Towel tissue paper in 22 GSM to 45 GSM 1 and 2 ply.

Facial Tissue Paper in 11.5 to 14 GSM 2 ply.

Tissue paper for medical use.

Lens cleaning tissue paper.

Below are Few General Problems Faced During the Making of the Tissue Paper.

I am facing problem of Lumps of fibre in the sheet.

You may have any of the following situations in your mill.

  1. Wet strength waste paper in furnish: Use wet strength breaking chemical during pulping.
  2. Pulp the furnish in High Con pulper if you have one.
  3. Check the refiner disc design. Correct design of the bars needs to be selected depending on the furnish.
  4. Check the screen basket configuration in Pulp section and approach section. Correct slot width removes major lumps from pulp before it reaches Headbox. Specks in the sheet

The specks in the paper sheet usually indicate that the screening of the pulp is improper and either the screen selection is not correct or the screen basket is damaged.

I am facing problem of Chips in the paper

The chips are seen in the tissue paper when there lot of lumps in the pulp and small pieces of paper which have not been converted into pulp are carried with the pulp on the forming zone and suring creping, these reflect as chips in the paper.

Selection of proper pulper, pulping chemicals and screening equipment takes care of this problem.

The paper made on my machine has Streaky formation

You may take the following steps.

  1. Check the dilution of pulp in the approach flow zone. Incorrect dilution causes streaks in the web.
  2. Check the wire for clogging.
  3. Check the condition of drainage elements. Uneven level or incorrect distance between the elements can cause the streaks in web.
  4. Uneven lip opening of headbox.
The tissue paper made on my machine has uneven crepping.

Check the following.

  1. Drainage on the wire.
  2. Temperature profile of MG Cylinder.
  3. Check CD profile

Kraft Paper

Kraft Paper is a general term for the paper made from the pulp made from wood by the process called Kraft pulping. The basic pulp made from wood is unbleached pulp and hence it is brown in colour. This pulp fibre is strong and the paper made from this fibre is very strong. Hence, the packaging paper is made from Kraft pulp and is called Kraft paper.

Kraft paper in the range of 40 to 90 GSM is used for paper bag making. The paper made in the range of 100 to 180 GSM is used in corrugation and box making and above 180 GSM, is called Kraft Board which is used for making paper tubes, cores and heavy boxes.

Kraft paper is of two types:

MG (Mono Glazed) Kraft Paper.

MF (Machine Finished) Kraft Paper.

Usual Complaints of a Kraft Paper Maker.

My Paper Sheet Has Cloudy Formation.

Check for the following:

  1. Uneven slushing of the pulp.
  2. Inefficiency of cleaning in Turbo Separator.
  3. Improper screening.
  4. Incorrect dilution at approach flow.
The Paper Sheet Made On Our Machine Has Excessive Across Weight Variation

Check for:

  1. Uneven flow at the Headbox lip.
  2. Rough surface inside the Headbox.
  3. Uneven drainage on the wire.
The Paper Sheet Has Undesired MD/CD Tensile Strength Ratio.

Check for:

  1. Incorrect Jet Wire ratio.
  2. Incorrect Long fibre/Short fibre mixture in the furnish.
We Are Not Able To Achieve Required CMT And RCT

Check for:

  1. Incorrect furnish.
  2. Incorrect MD/CD tensile ratio.
  3. Chemical dosage.
